Manual testing or a Software Quality Assurance is a process of Validating/Testing the software application to ensure it meets all the functional requirement specifications. The main objective of the Testing is to detect unidentified defects in the software application. Manual testing consists a sequence of activities includes identifying the testing requirements, creating Test Plans, Developing Test Cases, Executing Test Cases, Identifying the Defects, publishing the Test Summary Report.

Manual testers are skilled testing talents who are responsible for carrying out various types of manual tests on software applications to ensure that the application meets its specified requirements and to ensure that there are no defects exist in the application. Manual Testing Team performs various tests such as functional testing, regression testing, usability testing, compatibility testing etc to verify that the application performs as expected to the end user point of view. Below are high-level activities, manual testing team performs.

Test Planning: Manual Testing Team collaboratively work with project managers, business analysts, Architects, and other key stakeholders to build a test plan which is roadmap for whole testing process. Test planning covers key aspects like scope, schedules, approach, risks, tools etc
Test Case Design: Manual Testing Team create test cases, test scenarios, and test data based on the software requirements and design documents. They also prioritize test cases based on the risk and impact of defects.
Test Execution: Manual Testing Team executes test cases, record test results, and document defects using Test Management Tools. Manual Testing Team perform performs different types of tests based on the scope which includes functional, usability, compatibility, and any other types of testing in scope to ensure the software application behaves as per the end user expectations.
Defect Tracking: Manual Testing Team documents the defects using test management or defect tracking tool and work closely with development team for resolution. Once the defects are fixed, testing team re-test the defect to ensure all the defects are fixed.
Test Reporting: Manual Testing Team conclude the testing with the Test Summary report where they summarizing the test results along with the defect details and highlight if there are any open risks. Testing Team communicate the Test Results with project stakeholders and achieve endorsement on the results to take the changes into to next phase of the development life cycle.
